Spriggan mark 2 English fan translation
Auditioning

This is a completely volunteer, fan translation project, so unfortunately, there is no pay. Please make note of this when reading for a lead or major role as they have quite a substantial number of lines. Contributors will be credited in the release, which makes this a good chance to get some experience as a VA. Recording is done at home on your own schedule and there are no live sessions. All lines and takes will be sent through a Dropbox upload link that will be provided to you via email once you are cast. Please send auditioning takes to me via email.

  1. Pick the roles you want to read for. Each role page lists two to four audition lines with the original Japanese performance of each one, so you can hear the pacing without reading Japanese.
  2. Record dry, on a proper VA-grade microphone (no AirPods, gaming headsets, or phone mics please :), in a quiet room, with no reverb, compression, or noise reduction. See the recording notes.
  3. Try to stay inside the time shown against each line. Going over on an audition is not disqualifying, but fitting the original clip is important.
  4. Send the audition takes to chris@sprigganmark2.com by 11 October 2026. WAV files, one file per role. Just read all lines within one WAV file named YourName_ROLE.wav

Feel free to read for several roles. The audition lines are short and doubling was how most of the cast was filled for the original Japanese version.

What happens after the deadline

Auditions are reviewed together against the whole cast rather than as they arrive, so you may be offered a part you did not read for. That is usually where the doubling works out.

Decisions go out roughly two weeks after closing. If you are cast, you get a call sheet for your character. It has every line you speak in play order with the English to record, the original Japanese performance of that same line as an audio file, and the exact time each line has to fit in. You also get a character brief written that sort of explains each character's personality and background.

Recording proceeds at whatever pace suits you. There is no real deadline to complete the recordings as of now, but ideally before the end of the year.
